Oorokot is a handicraft association, which carries the name of its community, located in the middle of La Guajira. Its leaders are two sisters Gloria and Aleida Thiller. Their work is admirable as they have not only organized and empowered women from their community thru their craftworks but have been the pillars of the community school. As teachers, they have contributed to the bilingual (Wayunaiki and Spanish) education of the children living in the surrounding areas.

Thanks to the quality of their work Oorokot has made partnerships with Artesanías de Colombia, designer brands like Waré Crafts, and distributers of craftworks around the globe. Their work has been recognized as innovative and high quality.

Twenty Wayuu artisans from different ages make up this association. They weave together early in the morning while their children attend school. By working collectively, the most experienced teach the youngest while they have the chance to share the daily news and stories about their ancestors. By selling their crafts they have been able to improve school infrastructure, invest in access to clean water for the school and their livelihood.

Oorokot was the artisan community responsible for creating our 2020 Wayuu-Quevedo Collection which was showcased at the 2020 Rome Fashion Week. At their request, the gold medal each bag carries includes the name of their association Oorokot.
