Treicy Solano, who is only 24 years old, belongs to the new generation of Wayuu Indigenous. She have had the opportunity to finish her high school studies and go to a university, and at the same time she preserves traditions such as the “Encierro” or imprisonment ritual, ancestral practices from which the girl becomes a woman according to Wayuu traditions.

Currently she is in the seventh semester of Environmental Engineering and alternates her studies with the art of weaving, in order to cover the expenses associated with her studies and the maintenance of her 2-year-old daughter.

She says she likes to knit, because her mind is so focused on the fabric that her worries are taken away. Treicy hopes to transmit her daughter her abilities to preserve in her a part of her ancestral culture and wisdom.
