LUZ DAMARI BOURIYÜ

Zahino Community

Luz Damari just turned 20 in April 2018. She stills single and started to work for the “Waré Crafts” group of artisans a few months ago, as part of the team on charge of the 2018 Fusion Collection. She loves knitting. She says it strengthens her and expects her Wayúu Comunity never lose this tradition.

Luz Damari learned this art from her mother, her grandmother, and her sister Luz Marina Bouriyú, who is also a craftswoman from Waré Crafts, and who helped her to understand the weaving patterns of this collection, which were a bit more challenging than what she thought.

On the contrary, she wove the base of the backpack really quickly. It was as if the drawings went out of her mind, through the needle to the thread and made her hands move by themself. She loves the Waré Crafts designs, because it is a way to learn new things such as colors combination and new knitting pattern designs.

She says that it can take approximately 20 to 30 days to make a “Mochila” and everything she earns through her trade is invested in the needs of her family.
